On March 30th through April 2nd Point Park University in Pittsburgh PA hosted the Division 32 Humanistic Psychology Conference. This year the conference featured a significant influence from Pacifica with local alumni presenting and alumni from across the country attending and presenting their work in the world as well.
We were so honored to have Dr. Mary Watkins here in Pittsburgh at the conference this year. Not only did she inspire us with her call to action in a meaningful way but she also stayed and talked with students and visited panels in which she was many times featured as the main theorist and hence academic crush!
The students of Point Park were really blown away by esteemed alumni Kwame Scrugg’s and Andrew McCray’s myth presentation. My students have been learning about Kwame’s work throughout the semester and they were very inspired by his work with youth and the impact that his nonprofit Alchemy is making. Additionally we have been watching the film about the first core group of Alchemy young men, Finding the Gold Within and their reflections have been incredibly moving.
Additionally we had West Coast alumni Constance Kellogg and Gina Belton do presentations as well.
It was truely an inspiring event and Point Park got a taste of the beauty of Pacifica’s work in the world.
