Spring
On March 20th, 2017 we, in the northern hemisphere, usher in the spring (or vernal) equinox. Astronomically, this means that the Earth’s tilt has shifted in such a way that we now get more sun than we did in the winter and that our days are growing longer and warmer. With the warmth comes renewed plant growth and gardens flourish with splashes of beautifully colored flowers. However, this is also a time of our own renewal. Spring is a time for us to reflect on what went dormant in the winter and to ask ourselves what we want to sow now. Symbols and images of this process abound. Persephone emerges from the underworld and greets her mother Demeter for her time on the surface in the spring. Ancient fertility cults held fertility rites in the spring that resulted not only in the flourishing of crops but in the flourishing of new life in the wombs of their women. Now is a good time to ask yourself what you want to fertilize in your life so that you can harvest it come autumn. Many blessings as we enter this new chapter of the year!

No longer the stuff of science fiction, we are inter-mingled in worlds of technology and technological capability. Our daily lives are not only influenced by media and technology, we face big questions when we move beyond the threshold of our understanding and history to meet the character of technology on its own terms.
Join us for this month’s Myth Salon along with Dr. Glen Slater. Dr. Slater has been a core faculty member at Pacifica since 1998, now serving in the hybrid programs and teaching in the Mythological Studies department. He is the author of many articles in the areas of depth psychology, psyche and film and cultural mythology.
Comedy Break
I’m Triggered
Have you come across these funny gals yet? Karen Forman and Nicole Dalton are a part of our Pacifica community! Nicole is currently completing her thesis in the Counseling Psychology program. The duo also facilitated an ‘I’m Triggered’ workshop at Pacifica’s Coming Home alumni event this past January.
Karen and Nicole began their creative journey together dancing at The Sweat Spot in Silver Lake, Los Angeles. While cultivating a love of dance they soon realized they also shared a love of all things psychological. Their videos are inspired by actual conversations that have taken place between the two of them. They are grateful for the opportunity to laugh at themselves and are thrilled that others are laughing with them. The first in their series, I’m Triggered, went viral on Funny or Die who also promoted the video on Facebook and Twitter, as well as adding it to their “Most Watched Clean Comedy of the Month” list. Since then, they have shot 12 episodes and created a fan page on Facebook.
