Our Neighbors. . . Our Community. . .

When the ThomasFire Evacuations forced closure of Pacifica’s Lambert and Ladera Campuses and relegated management to teleconference meetings, the daily face-to-face interactions ceased, just as newly minted President Joe Cambray faced the daunting task of “tending Pacifica’s soul.” Yesterday, we gathered around a table at UCSB’s Mosher Alumni House, and it was so wonderful to reconvene in person.

Since we are still in harm’s way (today’s flare-ups were unprecedented) and until the fires begin to recede, the days ahead will require assessing the needs of our staff and faculty, then the huge task of property assessment at Ladera and Lambert campuses, which we must assure to be healthy work environments before our teams return.

We want to express sincerest gratitude to our neighbors at Mosher House (UCSB) for graciously hosting us over the next several days as we strive to bring our campuses back online. Special thanks to George Thurlow, Vice Chancellor for Alumni Affairs and Executive Director of the UCSB Alumni Association. George acknowledged their office’s warm and close working relationship with Dianne Travis-Teague, Pacifica Alumni Relations Director and her call for help. He further spoke of Pacifica’s involvement in support of the Santa Barbara Food Bank noting that, ‘we pay it forward.’

We are neighbors helping neighbors, our community! These stories of sharing are vital as we move toward recovery and renewal.
