The Return of Spring

Welcome to the Spring Issue, Los Angeles Region, of Pacifica Graduate Institute Alumni Association.

Spring: The season of new life. Persephone has returned from the underworld. We can awaken from a restful winter and begin to plant the seeds of life for 2015.

There are a couple of alumni events happening in April: one at the Getty Center Museum and the other at the Writer’s Guild. We hope something aligns with your interests.

There is an alumni who published in the Jewish Journal and is offering a workshop for the grandchildren of Holocaust survivors in May.
Would you like to post an event for other alumni to attend? Our newsletter notifies the Los Angeles area alumni of your interests and ideas to tend soul of and in the world. Our next issue will be sent out in Summer 2015. Give the details in an email to us and we will put it in.

An Afternoon at the Getty Museum
Sunday April 12, 2015 @ 12:00 noon
Please join us at the Getty Center Museum to view the Play photography exhibit (http://www.getty.edu/art/exhibitions/focus_play/). After our self guided tour, we will meet to the cafeteria area downstairs to talk about the photos we have seen and how play impacts our lives. Are we still playful or is our playfulness more of a memory?
Then at 3:00 PM we will attend a lecture on The Art of Play and the professional life. Cherise Smith, professor of art and art history at the University of Texas, Austin, and her brother, retired professional baseball player Gary Matthews Jr., discuss the complicated boundaries between work and leisure from the perspective of two professionals whose careers many people associate with leisure activities.
See the Getty Center website, and click on Exhibitions then In Focus: Play for more details.
We have reserved fifteen spots (the most we can do), so if you want to join us please respond to this email. We will send a confirmation email.
There is no entrance fee to the museum. Parking is $15.00 per vehicle.

Sunday April 12, 2015

Dear Friends,
I hope you’ll join us for a wonderful one-day workshop on the Feminine Heroic in Los Angeles on April 12. As storytellers, we have the potential to impact the lives of others and the world community in which we live. However, manifesting our inner vision can often be a daunting challenge. This workshop will give you new insights and remarkable navigational tools for exploring the inner landscape of your narratives, bringing both story and characters to life.
Our event will be held at the Writer’s Guild of America, 7000 West 3rd Street in Los Angeles, on Sunday, April 12, 2015 from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM. It is sponsored by Hedgebrook, a literary nonprofit that supports visionary women writers whose stories and ideas shape our culture. They offer writing residencies, master classes and salons at their retreat on Whidbey Island near Seattle.
Hope to see you there!
