C. G. Jung Society of Seattle’s Nancy Alvord Library
Dear Pacifica current graduate students and alumni,
At the beginning of this year, I became a caretaker and librarian for the C. G. Jung Society of Seattle’s library, located in the Good Shepherd Center in the Wallingford district of Seattle. Perhaps many of you already know how incredible this resource is, but I feel incredibly lucky to have stumbled upon it when I was a master’s student in Pacifica’s DJA (Depth Psychology specializing in Jungian and Archetypal Studies). This library—known as the Nancy Alvord Library named after an important benefactor—was an important resource for me during my graduate studies, and I want to make sure you all know about it too.
Our library contains more than 2,600 volumes on psychology, religion, philosophy, symbolism, mythology, folklore and fairytales, and cultural anthropology. It houses works collected over the 40-year history of the Society including the Kate Millard Memorial Collection of rare and out-of-print works including books by Carl Jung and Jungian scholars, theorists, historians, and analysts. The Jung Society has recently launched a new website, and more information is available there about the society itself and the library. The books are available for check-out to members of the C. G. Jung Society of Seattle. (Student membership is $35/year, regular membership $75/year, and sustaining membership $350/year.) We also have a selection of used books available for purchase by members and nonmembers focused on similar subjects.
The library is regularly open on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 1-4 pm and by appointment arranged through myself, Tamara Walker, or our general office.
