Pacifica Welcomes Group from Wuhan, China

It is with great pleasure that we welcome our visitors from Wuhan, China to Pacifica Graduate Institute.   On behalf of our Board of Trustees Chair, Dr. Thyonne Gordon, Chancellor, Dr. Stephen Aizenstat and President/CEO, Dr. Joseph Cambray, we welcome you to Pacifica and trust that your experience is a rewarding one.  Please enjoy the ‘gift bags’ provided by our Alumni Association!

The Group, which includes psychotherapy scholars, psychiatrists, psychologists and music therapists, will attend a series of lectures and events on the Lambert Lane Campus.  They bring many years of experience in depth psychology, but more from the psychoanalytic perspective, especially German psychoanalysis.

In recent years many have become interested in Jungian analysis and wanted to explore Pacifica’s renowned depth psychology programs.  Last year, Dr. Joseph Cambray was privileged to meet the group in April in Wuhan, before   attending a conference in Xi’an on Chinese Culture and Analytical Psychology.

The group includes:  Yu Ping; Zhao Yingying;  Dong Fei; Wang  Jie; Li Shuying; Zhang Yinglin;  Yang Yang; Shi Qijia; Shang Yuan; Zhao Zhong; Liu Jingheng; and,  Zeng Fanhui.

Today began with Dream Tending hosted by Dr. Stephen Aizensat.  Tomorrow Dr. Lionel Corbett offers clinical explorations about Psyche and the Sacred.  Their visit and workshop continue through August 18th.  A complete schedule is noted below.

Please take a moment to welcome our guest during their stay!

A Bit about Wuhan, China

Wuhan, a major hub on the Yangtze River, where it intersects with the Han downriver from the Three Gorges Dam, Wuhan is a “triple play” created in the 1920’s when what had been the ancient villages of Hankou, Wuchang, and Hanyang joined to form what has grown into one of China’s largest cities.

Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei Province in central China, is situated on Jianghan Plain, a river-crossed fertile land created by the Hanjiang River joining the Yangtze River. This is a routine port for a Yangtze River cruise. Divided by the Yangtze, Wuhan is known as the ‘Three Towns of Wuhan’ with Hankou and Hanyang on the west bank, and Wuchang on the east.

Wuhan is a city with both an ancient history and a thriving present. Historic relics excavated from ancient tombs tell the city’s long history dating back 3,500 years. In the period of Pre-Qin (770 B.C. – 221 B.C.), it was the land of the State of Chu (one of the seven warring states before Qin, in the country’s first feudal dynasty) and was the cradle of the brilliant Chu Civilization. Starting here, merchants followed the great Yangtze River and lake network to expand businesses throughout the entire country.
