The “Coming Home” alumni weekend in January was a real treat. I felt as if I had returned to the “mother ship” for a much needed recharge! Not only did I get to see some well‐loved colleagues, but I met many new and wonderful Alumni as well. Some had graduated years ago, and others only last spring. I was inspired by all of those Alumni who have published books and presented their work for us over the weekend. Just last night I finished reading Selden Edwards, “The Little Book” and completely loved it – take me to Vienna! Or have I been there already?
Thank you to all the Pacifica Alumni authors for your inspiration and for your great contributions to the “libraries” of the collective.
I felt extremely honored to receive the Wendy Davee Service Award at such a lovely evening event, and I also felt deeply inspired by the work of the previous recipient, Dr. Kwame Scruggs. Kwame’s work through Alchemy, Inc. and his participants were featured in the fabulous film “Finding the Gold Within.” Not only was the film extremely well done, but the young men who it featured, as well as the film writer, were present for a follow up panel discussion! What an honest and authentic evening discussion; the type of discussion that must continue and seems crucial to heal the divide that continues to exist between the races.

If you didn’t get a chance to attend the weekend, try to make time for it next year. The weekend offers a menu of workshop type options, plenty of stimulating conversation and mentorship – no matter the topic of your project, lots of good food, and the well timed break from winter snows comes through a quiet walk on the beach. It’s kind of like bringing in your old simmering embers and picking up fresh brightly burning coals to take back home and stoke all the little fires that are keeping watch over the soul of the world.
Thank you Pacifica Graduate Institute, Dianne Travis‐Teague, the Alumni Association, and its Board of Directors.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jill C. Griffin
