FoodBank Earns the 2021 Chancellor Emeritus Community Award

Pacifica Graduate Institute Alumni Association is honored to name FoodBank of Santa Barbara County as the recipient of the 2021 Chancellor Emeritus Community Award. FoodBank’s commitment to providing hunger relief for those in need  in the Tri-Counties is unparalleled. Their continued operations even during natural disasters and the pandemic crisis put them at the top of the list for this award.

“In gratitude, this year’s Chancellor Emeritus Award for Community Service is presented to the Food Bank of Santa Barbara County. As our County is recovering from the Covid-19 economic crisis and food has been short on tables for many of our neighbors, the Food Bank has been a lifeline in bringing  high quality nutritious food to families in need. In the hardest of times the Food Bank mobilized its resources and reached out to adults and children with the life affirming gift of love and care . . . the meals they needed to survive and thrive,” announced Dr. Stephen Aizenstat, Chancellor Emeritus of Pacifica Graduate Institute.

Foodbank of Santa Barbara County’s mission is to end hunger and transform the health of Santa Barbara County through good nutrition. A food bank is a non-profit organization working to eliminate hunger by providing food, education and other resources to a network of hunger-relief charities and their communities. Getting from hunger to health requires understanding the difference between eating enough calories and choosing healthy foods. FBSBC is pushing beyond the traditional scope of a food bank by providing more than just food.  With nutrition education, disaster preparedness, environmental sustainability and community resilience at the forefront of their mission, they are working to solve the underlying causes of hunger in Santa Barbara County.

Dianne Travis-Teague, Director of Alumni Relations at Pacifica Graduate Institute, adds: “We are so happy to honor them for everything they contribute to our community.”

The PGIAA Coming Home Awards Ceremony “An Evening of Hope” will be broadcast on Wednesday, October 20 from 4:00–6:00pm. For more information on viewing and participating, click here.
