    Sharon D. Johnson, PhD, WGAW

    Sharon D. Johnson, PhD, WGAW is a is a Lecturer in the California State University, Northridge Department of Africana Studies and a Script Consultant for PBS Masterpiece. Her chapter on Dr. Celestine Louise Smith–the first Black certified Jungian analyst–is published in Early Psychological Research Contributions from Women of Color, Vol. I (Routledge, March 2023). Dr. Johnson’s two chapters on Harlem Renaissance writer Zora Neale Hurston will appear in the forthcoming Cambridge University Press volume, Zora Neale Hurston in Context, edited by Christopher Varlack. Her essay, “Conscious Daughters: Psychological Migration, Individuation, and the Declaration of Black Female Identity,” is published in Teaching Daughters of the Dust as a Womanist Film and the Black Arts Aesthetic of Filmmaker Julie Dash (Peter Long, 2020). Dr. Johnson is editor of Seeing in the Dark: Wisdom Works by Black Women in Depth Psychology (The Malibu Press, 2017). She and the contributors to Seeing in the Dark conducted a public program at the CG Jung Institute of Los Angeles in October, 2020, titled “The Clinical is Cultural, The Cultural is Clinical: Black Women Depth Psychologists on the Evolution of Clinical Practice.” She has been an active member of the Writers Guild of America, West (WGAW) since 1993.
