Transition House’s “Secret Santa” Program
Every year, the children at Transition House write letters to Santa, much like many other children throughout our community. In these letters, the children can ask Santa for anything they might want for Christmas. We encourage the children to write down a variety of items in the following categories: Things I Want, Things I Need, Things to Wear, Things to Read or Play, and Things to Do. We also hope to provide each parent with a gift card to a store such as Macy’s, Old Navy, Marshall’s, Trader Joe’s, etc.
The next step is to match Secret Santas from our community with a child, group of children, or family living at Transition House. A Secret Santa might be a single person, a group of friends or co-workers, a family, or any other person or group that is interested in bringing Christmas joy by “adopting” a child or family in need this year. Once matched with a child or family, the Secret Santa then looks over the list/s and decides which items they would like to provide. Once the Secret Santa gathers all of the gifts they would like to give to their child/ren or family, they then deliver the un-wrapped items to our office building by December 19th.
“Adopting” a family or child is just one way you can help our families this Christmas. Here are a few other ideas:
· Check out our Amazon Wish List and purchase items to fulfill children’s wishes.
· Choose an ornament from our “Giving Tree” in the Transition House Office. Each ornament has one child’s wish written on it along with instructions for returning the items. (Available beginning Monday, November 21st)
· Create a “Giving Tree” in your business or office.
o We will provide you with ornaments to put up in your office or business and your customers or coworkers can choose an ornament and purchase a toy or other gift item for a child. Each ornament has one child’s wish written on it along with instructions for returning the items.
No matter which way you choose to give this Holiday Season, we need each and every one of you to ensure that the children living in our program have a wonderful Christmas. We are so grateful for all your time and donations. If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to ask! Please let us know if you or your group would like to be a Secret Santa this year and if so, how many children or families you would like to “adopt”.
