Greetings everyone and welcome to 2018!
I am very pleased to announce our January and February Myth Salons!
On Wednesday January 24, David Liu will join the Myth Salon to explore the deep wisdom and archetypal character of Traditional Chinese Medicine, particularly how and why eastern medicine has become so relevant and widely popular in contemporary western culture.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a tradition of healing and wellness that originated in China dating back over 2,500 years. According to TCM theory, our bodies possess a vital energy and recuperative life substance known as Qi. TCM encompasses many modalities including acupuncture, medicinal herbs, cupping, acupressure and Chinese massage, Feng Shui, Tai Chi, and meditation to help improve the quality, movement and balance of Qi. TCM has been adapted to modern living while still keeping to its traditional principles. In fact, acupuncture is the fastest growing medicine in the world today as people seek more natural and holistic approaches to living well. Acupuncture has undergone extensive research, and studies have shown it to be highly effective in treating acute and chronic pain, managing stress and anxiety, and dealing with certain diseases.
David Liu, L.Ac. is a board certified Acupuncturist and Herbalist based in Pasadena, who has dedicated his life and career to the study and practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Additionally, David is also a Feng Shui consultant and meditation instructor. His practice of TCM is predicated on mind and body wellness.
So, bring your questions and an inquiring mind to deepen your understanding about eastern medicine and gain new insights about how eastern and western approaches to health, consciousness and mindfulness contrast with and illuminate one another.
Then, on Tuesday February 20, the Myth Salon will feature Game of Thrones screenwriter and executive producer Vanessa Taylor and Robert Antonacci, who has worked more than 15 years in the entertainment industry as a designer and art director. Rob’s clinical interests include Jungian and depth psychology, dreams, shamanism, voice dialogue and working with those who experience marginalization. Last November, he produced a workshop at the Los Angeles Jung Institute on the Game of Thrones. The Myth Salon is proud to offer an evening devoted to the Game of Thrones where we will explore some of the archetypal underpinnings of the show’s characters that we love to hate and hate to love within a contemporary context. In addition, Vanessa Taylor has written the screenplay for the new Guillermo Del Toro film, The Shape of Water, currently playing citywide and a likely contender for numerous Oscar nominations.
The Myth Salon is held once a month in the living room of my Santa Monica home from 7-9pm and is moderated by Dr. Will Linn.
When you know you’re able to respond to attend either of the upcoming Myth Salons, please let me know. Also, if you have friends and colleagues you think would enjoy attending the Myth Salon, please have them email me so they can receive our monthly announcements.
Talk to you soon,
Dana
