Glen Slater, Ph. D., is a Pacifica core faculty member and Associate Chair of the Jungian and Archetypal Studies program. He has taught Jungian and archetypal psychology for over twenty years and contributed a number of articles to Jungian journals and essay collections. Glen also edited and introduced the third volume of James Hillman’s Uniform Edition, Senex & Puer, as well as a volume of essays by Pacifica faculty, The Varieties of Mythic Experience. His areas of interest and research include psyche and technology, the psychology of religion and psyche and film.
Dennis Patrick Slattery Ph.D. received the prominent rank of Distinguished Core Faculty at Pacifica Graduate Institute where he helped shape the development of the Mythological Studies program. He has been teaching for 44 years from elementary to secondary, undergraduate, and graduate programs. His areas of emphasis include the poetic imagination, writing and reading as mythic activities, the relation of psyche, spirit and matter, and the place of contemplation within the academic setting. He is the author of several books including: The Idiot: Dostoevsky’s Fantastic Prince; The Wounded Body: Remembering the Markings of Flesh; Grace in the Desert: Awakening to the Gifts of Monastic Life; Harvesting Darkness: Essays on Literature, Myth, Film and Culture; A Limbo of Shards: Essays on Memory, Myth and Metaphor; Riting Myth, Mythic Writing: Plotting Your Personal Story; and Creases in Culture: Essays Towards a Poetics of Depth. With Lionel Corbett he has co-edited Depth Psychology: Meditations in the Field as well as Psychology at the Threshold. With Glen Slater, he has co-edited Varieties of Mythic Experience: Essays on Religion, Psyche and Culture. With Jennifer Selig, he has co-edited Reimagining Education: Essays On Reviving the Soul Of Learning. He is the author of three volumes of poetry: Casting Shadows; Just Below the Water Line; and Twisted Sky. He serves as the faculty advisor to Between, the student literary journal as well as The Mythological Studies Journal, the student on-line journal, both published by the Mythological Studies Program.
Jennifer Selig, Ph.D. joined Pacifica’s faculty in 2005, and has served as Chair and Research Coordinator in the Depth Psychology program before moving into her current role as core faculty. Her books include Thinking Outside the Church: 110 Ways to Connect With Your Spiritual Nature; Reimagining Education: Essays on Retrieving the Soul of Learning; The Soul Does Not Specialize: Revaluing the Humanities and the Polyvalent Imagination which she co-edited with Dr. Dennis Slattery, a Mythological Studies professor at Pacifica; and Integration: The Psychology and Mythology of Martin Luther King, Jr. and His (Unfinished) Therapy With the Soul of America.
Elizabeth Nelson, Ph.D. is core faculty and Dissertation Policy Director at Pacifica Graduate Institute. She teaches a broad range of courses in research process, methodology, and dissertation development along with courses in dream, imagery, literature, and cultural studies. Her own research interests include personal, cultural, and mythic expressions of the shadow, gender, and power. Dr. Nelson is the author of two books, The Art of Inquiry: A Depth Psychological Perspective (Spring Publications, 2005, coauthored with Joseph Coppin) and Psyche’s Knife: Archetypal Explorations of Love and Power (Chiron, 2012). A professional writer and editor for more than 30 years, she coaches aspiring authors across a variety of genres and styles.
Alumni Voices
Michael Bogar M.Div. Th.M. MA. is the spiritual director at the Bainbridge Island Spiritual Enrichment Center. He is an adjunct instructor at the Holmes School of Consciousness Studies, and teaches regularly at the Seattle Center for Spiritual Living and other venues in the Pacific Northwest. He is currently completing his doctoral degree in Mythology and Depth Psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute. He is writing a book titled, Watching God Grow Up: Reading the Bible as Stages of Consciousness. He is available for guest speaking, coaching and teaching, and has a blog which can be reached via his web site at www.michaelbogar.com.
Eduard Uzumeckis is a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970. He received his MFA in Art from Arizona State University in 1982. He taught photography, digital media, and digital storytelling for more than 25 years. He is the former Director of the Dana Atchley Center for Digital Storytelling at Yavapai College in Sedona Arizona. In 2011 Eduard received his Ph.D. in Mythological Studies and Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute. His dissertation investigated the veteran’s inward journey and recovery upon leaving the service. Currently he works as a Veterans Service Officer with the Vietnam Veterans of America helping veterans and their families, of all eras, apply for and receive their veterans’ benefits.
Cindi Anderson, PhD. With a doctorate in Mythology, emphasis in Archetypal Psychology, and over two decades working with leading marketing and media companies, Cindi Anderson brings a rare combination of in-depth, hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge to all levels of brand development and direct marketing. Her commercials are seen around the globe, and she has launched some of the most successful brands sold direct to consumer. In addition to uncovering trends in American pop-culture, brand personality, and symbolism in advertising, Anderson is known for her ability to pinpoint hidden influences at play in key demographic groups and in the culture at large, which has added to her understanding of what motivates people to take action in this complex and changing world. As a strategist and writer, Anderson is a sought-after authority in direct response television. Prior to beginning her direct marketing career, Anderson held a variety of administrative, development and production positions in the entertainment business for International Creative Management, Home Box Office, and Tall Pony Productions, working on television specials for David Bowie, Steve Winwood, Whoopie Goldberg, the Judds, Comic Relief and many more.
Mistress of Cermonies
Bonnie Bright, Ph.D., graduated from Pacifica’s Depth Psychology program after defending her dissertation on “Culture Collapse Disorder” in December 2014. She is the founder of Depth Psychology Alliance, a free online community for everyone interested in depth psychologies, and of DepthList.com, a free-to-search database of Jungian and depth psychology-oriented practitioners. She is also the creator and executive editor of Depth Insights, a semi-annual scholarly journal, and regularly produces audio and video interviews on depth psychological topics. Bonnie has completed 2-year certifications in Archetypal Pattern Analysis via the Assisi Institute; in Technologies of the Sacred with West African elder Malidoma Somé, and has been extensively involved in Holotropic Breathwork™ and the Enneagram.
Elizabeth Robinson, As someone who has been on all sides of healthcare, Dr. Robinson has a unique perspective from which she speaks: as Nurse, as Patient, as Mythologist, and usually all three. In this presentation, Embodied Vocation, Dr. Robinson will explore the intersection between body and vocation. Elizabeth Ann Robinson, author of The Soul of the Nurse, is an advanced practice nurse. She received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Samuel Merritt University, her master’s degree in nursing from University of California, San Francisco, and her PhD in mythological studies and depth psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute. Dr. Robinson has been a staff nurse in oncology and cardiology at Stanford Medical Center, administrator at Duke Heart Center, and a Clinical Nurse Specialist in cardiology and critical care at Sequoia Hospital, Redwood City, and Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento. She lives in Santa Barbara, where her maternal grandmother grew up, and works as a clinical policy writer for the local hospital. She writes and speaks from the perspective of a nurse, a patient, and a mythologist.
