As a naturally curious person, enjoys acquiring new knowledge, improving systems, and creating innovative solutions to prickly problems. In his spare time, he enjoys fly fishing and dancing with his wife, Dana, and young son, Jack. Oh yeah, and reading!

Maryam Sayyad, PhD, Mythological Studies

Maryam Sayyad identifies as a mythologist foremost, a writer, designer/artist, and entrepreneur. Her family emigrated from Iran to Los Angeles when she was a child. She has since lived in Athens, Tokyo, and Los Angeles where she studied philosophy, art, art history, design and, finally, received her Ph.D. in Mythological Studies from Pacifica Graduate Institute in 2022. All of these subjects continue to inform and shape her current work.

For many years, she headed an interior design firm while continuing to study, write, lecture, and consult. She teaches courses and lectures on mythology, philosophy, and writing at Ubiquity University, Studio School, and Cross-Cultural Expressions (CCE), and offers mythological consultation on film and animation projects. Recent releases are Wake Up Sleeping Beauty and The Djinn in the Pen, two psycho-mythological films on which she was both myth-consultant and art director. These films were created by CCE, and funded by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health.

Currently, she serves as Director of Art and Education for CCE where her mission is creating events and programs which bridge psychology with mythology. Most recently, she curated and hosted a day-long conference titled Unveiling the Mythos of Iran: Liberating Our Stories, Liberating Ourselves held at the Philosophical Research Society in Los Angeles. This event was in partnership with CCE, in service to a distressed Iranian-American community, and with funding and participation from Take Action LA Mental Health Awareness Month. Her article “The Body and Soul of the Feminine Revolution in Iran” appears in the November 2022 issue of The Eden Magazine.
