A letter from G. Kwame Scruggs, PhD:
Hello,
As founder of Alchemy, Inc., our mission in the Akron community since 2004 has been “To cultivate urban adolescent males to develop a sense of purpose in life and to thrive as members of a family, school and community.”
For a long time, I have wanted to bring Alchemy to New York City. I want to see the young men and women of New York City harness the power of myth and become the hero of their own stories.
I want to bring Alchemy to New York City schools. Even more importantly, I want to teach The Alchemy Method to the teachers, counselors, social workers and others who have made a profession out of helping young people.
I am going to have an event in NYC on Saturday, August 20th from 10am-1pm to introduce people to The Alchemy Method (“Save the Date” flyer attached). The host will be Dr. Janet Taylor, author of The Courageous Classroom: Creating a Culture of Safety for Students to Learn and Thrive.
The objective of the event is to introduce Alchemy to those who are in a position to:
- Bring Alchemy to NYC schools;
- Offer Alchemy as professional development for those working with NYC youth;
- Find individuals interested in being trained in The Alchemy Method in order to enhance their work with youth
If you know of people who should be in the room for this event, please do not hesitate to forward this email to them. Anyone should feel free to contact me with any thoughts or questions. If anyone would like to register for the event, please email [email protected].
In the meantime, here are three quick ways to understand more about Alchemy:
- a two-minute trailer to the documentary about Alchemy;
- My TEDx talk about Alchemy;
- Two-minutes from the host, Dr. Janet Taylor, on her experience with Alchemy – Janet Taylor and Alchemy on Vimeo
In myth, the hero/heroine never accomplishes the task alone, there is always assistance from a guide or a mentor. I could use your assistance with helping me find gatekeepers to New York City. Thank you for your time and consideration.
In myth,
Kwame
