In Memoriam: Steve Oshin
We are writing this morning to share the impactful news that Steve Oshin, C Track alum of 2020, has passed away. As a beloved member of the Whales cohort, this is a difficult loss for our community to metabolize.
We will include a link below, with a note from Steve’s family noting his upcoming memorial, as well as an additional link for donations to the Fred Hutch’s Colon Cancer Research Program, for which Steve was working on fundraising:

You can also read more about what Steve had been up to on his personal website here:

We are currently in supportive dialog with his cohort, who are considering ways to memorialize Steve more permanently on the Ladera Campus.
We also wished to share dialog from one of the last emails we received from Steve, full of his usual grace and gratitude, and finding silver linings as the pandemic ramped up in 2020 following our Commencement:
I found this to be inspiring so I thought I would send it to you. I also wanted to thank you for the best virtual graduation I have participated in. I appreciate your effort in making the day a special day for us all. Pacifica was a transformative experience for me…even at this late stage of life…
What if 2020 isn’t cancelled?
What if 2020 is the year we’ve been waiting for?
A year so uncomfortable, so painful, so scary, so raw–
that finally forces us to grow.
A year that screams so loud, finally awakening us
from our ignorant slumber.
A year we finally accept the need for change.
Declare change. Work for change. become the change.
A year we finally band together, instead of
pushing each other further apart.
2020 isn’t cancelled, but rather
the most important year of them all.
Please join us in remembering and honoring Steve, and his impact on our Pacifica community.
