Los Angeles Region Summer 2017 Newsletter

The summer solstice is the one day of the year where the sun is at its zenith, thus, it is the day where the light lasts the longest into the evening. We, in Los Angeles, now also move into the hottest parts of the year. However, ironically, now the days begin to get shorter culminating at the winter solstice which is when we have the shortest day of the year and longest night. If the winter is the time of inward-looking, reflective, “yin” energy, summer is the time of outward, active, “yang” energy. This is a good time to become aware of the tension of the opposites at work in both nature and in ourselves as, despite experiencing increased heat and activity, the days are actually becoming shorter and we are moving, ever so surely, toward the darker time of the year.
