• FAQ •
We here attempt to anticipate common inquiries, as revealed in a thorough vetting of requests for clarification and/or help received via user e-mails to our earlier site (alumni.pacifica.edu). From that effort, we identified eight pressing questions, which we ordered by frequency and vehemence to form the basis of these answers. Emergent “issues” and concerns with website accessibility and functionality may be addressed via the site’s Contact Us feature, or directly through your Web Oversight Group. Please note that all such inquiries may be subsequently included here.
| FAQ 1 | How may I obtain a User Name & Password for the PGIAA website?
Register for membership in the Pacifica Graduate Institute Alumni Association through the PGIAA website — pgiaa.org — by following its prompts. In the upper left corner of the site, you will see two buttons: Login (for registered members) and Register (for new arrivals). Clicking the second button brings you to our Welcome Page explaining fees and inviting you to continue by clicking the Sign Up button. When you arrive at our Registration Page, please fulfill in the name, username, email contact, password, and confirm password areas, and continue by clicking Sign Up confirmation button. This transports you to PayPal for membership payment. Upon completion, please enjoy immediate access to your personal Profile Page. A Registration Confirmation email, usually sent within 24 hours, guarantees your full access to the site. As a registered member, please employ the Login button to enter the site.
| FAQ 2 | How may I navigate the site toward identifying alums near me, by town, state, region, expertise, publications, services, etc.?
Your relaunched PGIAA website includes two registries of alums (those who have graduated from a program offered by Pacifica Graduate Institute):
our Registered Members Directory points you to currently active members of our alumni community, and affords links to individual Alumni Profile Pages offering personal and contact information as determined by each member;
our comprehensive Pacifica Alumni Directory of all Pacifica graduates, listed alphabetically within year and cohort, offers contact information as publicly available and currently validated to the best of our efforts.
The former, of course, reflects current membership and remains partial; the latter remains at this time “under construction,” as it encompasses more than 4,000 names, often associated with two or more degrees. To facilitate completion of this list, we include graduates (not all attendees) of Pacifica listed alphabetically within chronological year of achievement and respective program and cohort. To mitigate duplicate entries, we privilege “ultimate” degree achievement within a given program, with subsequent or precursor achievements appended (for instance, Ph.D. graduates in Mythological Studies first achieve a qualifying M.A. within that program; being the “ultimate” degree of that program, Ph.D. entries receive emphasis in this listing, though with the M.A. noted).
A third registry may also help: our Regional Groups & Cohorts section lists active members engaged in our alum community and its many events and activities, most commonly under the auspices of local alum groups but also in instances of specific Pacifica class groups electing to launch their own cohort page. We invite you to look here for Pacifica colleagues in your area, and for friends and acquaintances per your best knowledge of their area of residence. And we invite you to join your local group, or launch a cohort page, to facilitate community connections.
We hope and intend that perusing this trio of features — or employing the site’s Search function (find it at the upper right corner of every page, and atop the right column of every page) — aids every member in identifying cohort colleagues, proximate graduates, and reputable scholars of interest. Please note that each registered member elects the amount and character of personal information and curricula vitae shown, including contact information; that said, the site provides for messaging between registered members.
| FAQ 3 | How may I employ the site’s “training section” toward effective use without ad pop-ups and site failures?
A major difficulty encountered with our previous site, the “training section” has been retired in favor of our current accessible, readily navigable, user friendly site. (Hope springs eternal.) That said, for orientation please refer to our Site Map (located in the “bottom navigation” of each page), and keep in mind our invitation to submit inquiries regarding emergent or continuing “issues” and concerns via the site’s Contact Us feature, or directly through your Web Oversight Group.
| FAQ 4 | Who do I call — can I reach an effective Help Desk — when encountering registration, navigation, or information update dilemmas?
Because of staff and funding limitations, we offer no formal “Help Desk.” That said, please do keep in mind our invitation to submit inquiries regarding emergent or continuing “issues” and concerns via the site’s Contact Us feature, or directly through your Web Oversight Group.
| FAQ 5 | How can I effectively update my membership/profile information, particularly given the site’s accessibility and functionality issues?
A major difficulty encountered with our previous site, the original registration and profile regimen has been retired in favor of our current accessible, readily navigable, user friendly site. (Hope springs eternal, ever.) That said, for orientation please refer to our Site Map (located in the “bottom navigation” of the Home Page), and keep in mind our invitation to submit inquiries regarding emergent or continuing “issues” and concerns via the site’s Contact Us feature, or directly through your Web Oversight Group. Also, let us know if you find the site accessible, readily navigable, user friendly. Please.
| FAQ 6 | How do I contribute materials — articles, calendar events, photos — to the site?
Please refer to the Submissions & Editorial Guidelines page.
| FAQ 7 | How do I request and employ materials toward fostering and participating in a Buddy Program for new and/or proximate alums?
Please refer to the The PGIAA Buddy Program page under the site’s Lending A Hand section.
| FAQ 8 | Can (and how does) one search the site for people, events, papers, therapists, services, generally and regionally??
Our new site includes a standard Search function — find it at the upper right corner of every page, and atop the right column of every page — that facilitates “surfing” the site by key word, name, title, etc., the more granular (specific and exact) the better. As the site expands its functionality with more navigational and content features, it will yield further, greater, and deeper search results.
| FAQ Bonus | What if my question isn’t answered by the FAQ section?
Please do keep in mind our invitation to submit inquiries regarding emergent or continuing “issues” and concerns via the site’s Contact Us feature, or directly through your Web Oversight Group.
